Breathless (Twisted Fairy Tales: Enchanted Fables Book 1) ~ I went into Breathless knowing it was a twisted retelling, but I was not prepared for how emotional and haunting this story turned out to be. The idea of The Little Mermaid reimagined with a male lead instantly hooked me, and Adrian — son of Poseidon — is such a complex and tortured character. He’s powerful, lonely, and trapped by duty, and you feel every ounce of that weight as the story unfolds.

What I loved most was how dark and raw this book felt. This isn’t a sweet fairy tale — it’s full of sacrifice, longing, and hard choices. The underwater world is vivid, the magic feels dangerous, and the emotional pull between characters keeps me glued to the pages. There were moments that honestly broke my heart, and others that made me angry in the best way because the stakes felt real.

If you enjoy fairy tales with teeth — emotional depth, moral gray areas, and characters who suffer for love — this book delivers. It set the tone for the entire series perfectly and left me needing to know what twisted story would come next.

I would definitely recommend this book and series and can’t wait to start on the next book. If you want to know what happens next, you’ll just have to read this series yourself — you won’t regret it.
