Janice Cole Hopkins does it again. Pulls me into a story that I can't get enough of. This book is packed with positiveness and love. Bretta has opened her own construction business and needs some help. The problem is, most men will not work for a woman, and it's been hard trying to find someone. When Alec applies for the job, he seems perfect and has no problem with her being the boss. But what does she really know about the man. When things start happening, his secret is revealed and with her intuition and feelings, she knows he is telling her the truth. But what is causing all the problems for her? And it's getting more dangerous by the second. With faith and love, these two stick together and find out just what it is. I loved this story because of the good feelings it gives. I loved it for the way family bands together despite different points of view. But most of all, I love the couple that overlooked society and knew their own hearts. This is a fabulous listen.

Wendy Arcega brings this gem to life with a fantastic performance. She voices both the men and women with ease, giving each the perfect personality and sound. As Bretta, she is strong, opinionated and gives a feeling of independence all through her inflections. Loved her story telling and hope to hear more from her.

Fantastic story!

It was unusual for a woman to own a building renovation business even in the late 1800s. Bretta wants to continue expanding her business so she hires Alec who has secrets in his past. Alec proves his worth to her, but when a family problem arises Alec returns home to help out. In the end everything works out, but the characters involved have to examine their hearts before they are able to move forward.

Nice characters and a family that works out problems in the end

Dad, a city boy from New Jersey, must have picked up some carpentry skills while surviving World War II. I remember him turning a two bedroom house into five bedrooms by converting the attic spaces, even adding a bathroom for us three girls, leaving the downstairs for my folks and the new baby. A later renovation in my teens saw a garage converted into two bedrooms. I think I was more help that time, and certainly picked up a few skills of my own from his patient teachings. Clearly our heroine has managed to do the same. but she has gone a step further and started her own firm, remodeling and selling houses. But it's a lot of work for one woman on her own, so she's looking to hire someone. Enter the hero, with his shady past, and hang on for some intricate double dealing and foul play. You are in for an exciting romance!
