A bold and timely novel that explores how women can feel invisible as they grow older—and what happens when they decide to take back control.

Bernie Moon's ambitions and dreams have been forgotten by everyone, even Bernie herself. At nineteen she was full of promise, but now, facing fifty and going through the menopause, she's a fading light.

Until the murder of a woman in a local park unlocks a series of childhood memories, and with them, a talent that she has hidden all her adult life.

What happens when the frustrations and power of an older woman are finally given their chance to be revealed?

Filled with growth and redemption, revenge and visibility, friendship and self-discovery, Broken Light is an explosive new thriller that challenges our notions of womanhood and power.

Very well written. Dark and heart wrenching. She calls out a lot of real life examples of
Gender bias but it’s fairly one-sided and gets redundant.

Unique Plot

The reader was excellent. The story was fantasy. The author's voice between Bertie and Katie did not vary enough for me to believe they were different people. I also saw the ending coming too soon.

I don't like fantasy fiction

Joanne Harris is always amazing. Such a great story and well-drawn characters. A few loose ends and left me wishing for a few more details. But overall excellent and recommended!

Great story

The deep connection to the complex nature of all humans and at the same time, the simplicity of what everyone wants or needs.

The powerful weaving of emotions!

Im a life long bookworm, and a tad older than these main characters. But very few books have ever actually made me cry- this did. Not sad, not happy- but fully nuanced, expansively beautiful. For a post-menopausal person, simultaneously gut-piercing and thoroughly embracing. But a woman at any age could identify- it’s amusingly insightful about the experience of being female. I’m aching to get one of the men in my life to read it & weigh in! Anyway, a fabulous slow-burn story written with towering skill, enjoyably performed. My new favorite, and I don’t change often! I enthusiastically recommend (:

Seriously- phenomenal
