A priceless treasure is hidden within the ocean's depths....

Sabine barely managed to escape from Akros with her life.

But the ocean isn't safe for someone whose power stems from the forests.

When their ship is attacked on the high seas and one of Sabine's companions is taken hostage, only an agreement forged by blood and magic may save her friend's life.

The pearl of the sea is also the key to the gods' revenge....

With the dragon portal failing and the gods' magic threatening to destroy their world, Sabine must choose between following her heart or upholding a sacred oath.

The cost of ending a centuries-old feud may be higher than anyone expected.

All magic demands a sacrifice–even if it's hers.

okay, this series just keeps getting better, a whole new adventure new problem, but still running from the old. to be honest I can't wait to get started on the next book. they even made new Alliances. good for her, but they do have one teeny tiny problem with her magic. let's see what happens next.

This was fun, it instantly gripped me right back into this world and wastes no time getting to action. It’s pretty much non-stop action and drama and conflict … it seems for every 1 they set out to resolve, 3 more arise along the way.

(Honestly, I’d spend every day in this world, just for Blossom alone—love her!)

✧ Strong female lead.
✧ A bit of romance and steam on the side.
✧ Friendship with strong bonds.
✧ Found family vibes.
✧ Perpetual journey.
✧ Multiple conflicts.
✧ Angry / sus goddess.

Features ALL the fantasy creatures and good writing—4 stars, overall.

This is the second book in The Dragon Portal series. OMG I love this series. This book picks up where book one left off. This book is jam packed with action and such an amazing world. Blossom by far is one of my favorite characters ever in a series. Meg Price is absolutely phenomenal narrating this book.

This one picks up where the previous one left off and the action starts pretty early on. Sabine is still navigating the delicate balance of her fae heritage and trying to keep herself safe along with her feelings for a dragon. Malek is always there and very steady he’s not going anywhere and not letting Sabine face all these dangers on her own. And then we have Blossom who I adore! She adds a lot of lightness and yet cuts to the core of things at times. I’m curious to see where this series is going and how everything will play out. Along with Sabine and Malek’s relationship. I enjoy learning more about the different types of magic in this world.

Great continuation

I think this second book in the series is better than the first because the story is faster and more interesting. Sabine’s and Malick’s slow-burn romance nicely progresses, and I am happy to report that the romance is not a reverse harem. It is a M/F romance without cheating, although it is more of an epic fantasy adventure than a romance. It could be called a romantasy. I enjoyed the abundant action scenes, magic-working, and fascinating places. It was great getting to know the minor character Blossom as well.

The series must be read in order. The story is told in chapters alternating the perspectives of Sabine and Malick. The romance is mostly low-steam but with one short minimally described bedroom scene. The magic usually involves minor bleeding from a hand, so readers who are very squeamish about blood-letting might not like the series. I am completely invested in the story and characters now, so I am really looking forward to seeing what happens in the rest of the series.

One minor complaint: often when a catastrophe is going on in the book, Sabine and Malick spend long moments thinking about their lust for each other instead of hurrying up and saving people, or Sabine takes overly long discussing her strategy when she should be doing something. I found that if I just stuck with it, the action picked up again in a few minutes.

The narrator Meg Price did a great job again, but I think most listeners will enjoy it better if they speed it up to 1.3x or something like that. She enunciates very well but speaks a bit slowly, so I think it sounds perfect at 1.3x speed. Meg Price is excellent at accents and men’s and women’s voices. She brings an appropriately regal voice to Sabine and brings the book to life.
