Can a weary alien warrior and a wary human widow learn to love again?

The life of a warrior is all Callum has ever known, but after a long, meaningless war he is tired of fighting. Instead, he chooses to accompany his brothers in arms to a new life on a backwater planet and finds an unexpected peace in the hard work of restoring their isolated ranch.

When his former commander finds a bride amongst the human settlers nearby, he has no intention of following in his footsteps. He learned long ago that females could not be trusted—not even the deliciously curvy female with the sad eyes who haunts his dreams.

Pearl married young—only to find out that the charming man she married was a monster behind closed doors. Although she stayed with him for the sake of her sister, now that he’s gone she has no intention of becoming involved with another male—not even the big, silent alien warrior who arouses long forgotten feelings.

When Pearl is forced to go to Callum for help, the two of them are trapped together. Is the overwhelming attraction between them enough to overcome the wounds of the past? And will an unexpected enemy destroy any chance of a future together?

This was by far my favorite of the books of the 4 I have listened to so far! I wanted to know more about Callum, our quiet gentle giant who always looks out for others. And we get Pearl's story and they are perfect for one another. The older ones who always have to be the protectors and not always thinking about themselves or putting themselves first. I loved their building love in this one, despite it being smaller novels, this one packed a punch.

I loved this forced proximity, again one of my favorite tropes, and they did not disappoint with their building attraction but also getting to know each other and learn from each other as they navigated the "avalanche" and storm. We get some good plot too, besides the romance. Then you add in the others who come into the story when the reunions start and it's funny to see how Pearl handles her younger sister and her mate haha. Benjar always brings the humor but so does Pearl's sister in this one.

Narration was good, I've listened to both of these narrators before so this one was good. I did like the male narrator more than the female narrator but again both were solid in book 3 of this series. I went right into listening to book 4 (not my favorite) so that should tell you how much I am invested in this series. I hope more books come to audio soon!

I thought the romance/attraction was sweet in this one. Not wanting to push it/but they couldn't help the tension and connection they shared. Loved the steamier bits and how these aliens have some fun accessories/hidden secrets going on hahaha.

Favorite story so far in this series!
