The king tied his baby daughter to a spear and prepared to throw it across a raging torrent.

“Diana!” he cried, “Goddess of the Hunt! If you protect my daughter Camilla, then I vow she will serve you forever.”

Then he hurled the spear, and with it his child, across the river.

Princess Camilla grows up in the wood with her father, learning to hunt like Diana and fight like an Amazon. One day refugees from the Trojan War arrive in her land. Camilla trains a band of four teenage girls like herself to fight off the invaders. But will male warriors accept their help? And can a few girls really make a difference?

Who was Camilla, Queen of the Silver Arrow? As far as we know, she is an invention of the Roman poet Virgil, and absolutely unique.

This short adaptation from a tragic tale from Virgil’s famous epic poem the Aeneid touches on themes of friendship, loyalty, and bravery. Written in clear language a fast-moving plot, it is perfect for reluctant or busy teen listeners, especially those who love strong women of Greek and Roman mythology.

This was a winner.

I enjoyed listening to this- it had a lot of dimension to it, history, culture, transcending gender stereotypes and ultimately a positive twist to a unfortunate warring situation. Great narration!

Captivating story line

The author provides a very engrossing story that may be the first experience of many readers to Virgil’s Aeneid. The narrator does an excellent job and makes it very easy to listen to the story.
