The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was discovered in 1964. At the time, the very idea of a virus underlying a cancer was revolutionary. Cancer is, after all, not catching. Even now, the idea of a virus causing cancer surprises many people. But Epstein-Barr, named after its discoverers, Sir Anthony Epstein and Dr Yvonne Barr, is fascinating for other reasons, too. Fascinating

Enjoyable history of the discovery of EBV and its related diseases. The narrator took me a little while to get used to but eventually I grew to enjoy some of his idiosyncrasies. Well done, overall.

Renaissance of the Epstein-Barr Virus

This is a fascinating and comprehensive review on EBV, from its discovery when researchers were looking for a causal relation with Burkitt’s lymphoma to supporting evidence that the virus can cause a specific disease such infectious mononucleosis, to its role in causing lymphomas in patients undergoing immunosuppression, and its postulated role in multiple sclerosis.
I highly recommend this book to scientists, medical students and doctors trying to understand mechanisms of disease, those willing to have a broader view of the virus, and those like myself who are trying to look for inspiration for future research.

A great overview of the history and reality of the EBV, from 1950s to close to present day. talks about the various doctors and scientists around the world that have researched ebv and it's link to tumors and multiple sclerosis

Educational and entertaining

I have a re -activated EBV going on and I found this book to be horrifying. But it has filled in many of the missing pieces of a puzzle for me about the virus and why current general Practioner’s do not know much about it. This book is a must read!! It is written very well for the layman, and is like listening to a drama unfold. I learned ALOT!
