What does the Bible say about marijuana? If it doesn’t directly address marijuana, how can Christians know what to make of the legalization of recreational cannabis and the advocacy of medical marijuana?

In the past, Christians could easily answer the question of whether or not it was permissible to use cannabis by deferring to state prohibitions. We could simply say, “It’s against the law.” Today, that answer is no longer possible. Christians are now forced to do what they should have been doing all along: Think like disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and bring to bear the wisdom of the sufficient word of God.

Since cannabis is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible, we must understand what it is and how it affects the user. We also must understand what the Bible says about discipleship, healing, suffering, and what it is to be human. Only then can we answer the critical questions regarding the recreational use and the medical use of cannabis.

In Cannabis and the Christian, Todd Miles gives listeners:

  • Biblical wisdom applied to the question of recreational cannabis
  • Biblical wisdom related to the medical use of cannabis
  • A grid to think through other ethical questions that aren’t directly addressed in the Bible
  • Confidence to respond to challenging issues standing on the sufficient word of God

As a former pot addict I can say that this book is spot on from a practical perspective. As a born again disciple of Christ I can say the the author does an excellent job of covering all aspects of the issue. When read without bias the conclusions of this book will certainly leave one with everything needed to make the decision as to whether the claims of the pot industry whether recreational or medical are of enough credence to consent oneself to its use..

Excellent Exposition!

Great info on the usage and problematic results of using cannabis. It is a well rounded and fact based discussion. A must read for church leaders and those wanting to talk about cannabis usage.

I'm a Christian who has met a few other Christians who use marijuana as a way to keep themselves from relapsing into alcoholism. I've had some doubts about that being a good use of the plant and wonder if the benefits outweigh the risks. We live in a state where marijuana has been legalized.

I do believe marijuana is a medicinal plant and has some good uses such as for cancer patients, people in the final days of their lives, or the use of CBD to alleviate pain or to help lessen the effects of epilepsy. So when I found this book here on Audible I wanted to listen to give myself more information and clarity on this topic.

This book is a good overview of the topic and covers both scripture and scientific/medical information. I thought the author was fair, compassionate and well-balanced in reporting on the subject.

I have lived with chronic marijuana smokers in the distant past and found them to be grumpy, overly paranoid and suspicious, and sometimes verbally abusive. It is my intention to stay away from people who have these kinds of problems as much as I am able. Of course when they show up in my church that isn't possible.

I appreciate this book

Todd Miles has written an excellent overview to an important subject from a biblical perspective. He doesn't overstate things, and he doesn't make unfair comparisons. Worth the read!

I feel like the author tried his best to understand cannabis. Some of the facts have been shown to be skewed or false, yet they are presented here as truth. I wish he would have interviewed more people in the cannabis industry.

Helpful, but has its issues.
