Captain John Smith (1904) is a gripping biography of a remarkable man and informative history of early colonial times. Captain Smith already had an adventurous life before he saved Jamestown colony, among other actions by forging relations with the Powhatan tribe.

Narrator was a bit soft and wheezy. Story is a bit choppy as piecing together bits of historical records from over 300 years ago makes for difficult prose.

Little do we know of CAPT John Smith

This brief biography of Capt. John Smith appears to be based mostly on his own autobiography and on a general history of the colony of Virginia. The writing has a very old fashioned feel to it. By half way through the story I was sure that it must have been written in the early 1900s. It is very interesting and informative but it also comes off as an apologists account of the man’s life, always intent on saying no, really, he’s not bad like everyone else says.
The narrator unfortunately is rather poor. He has no rhythm or flow in his speech and mispronounces words frequently.

Old fashioned but interesting.
