On a balmy August night, Captain Nicholas sits in his chair on the balcony, feet lazily extended onto the deck posts, a fragrant pipe as his only companion in the silence. The moon casts a red glow on the still waters below, and the sunset hues create an illusion of golden droplets on the crimson canvas.
Alone on his balcony, Captain Nicholas reflects on his life. His wife, his once constant companion, passed away a year ago. His son, married with children, visits when possible. The house, his paternal home, was transformed with a new balcony overlooking the sea, his first love. Here, he wishes to spend his remaining years.
Past eighty and feeling weary, Captain Nicholas smokes his pipe, the tendrils of smoke blending momentarily with the vibrant colors around him before disappearing into the night. As he gazes across the sea, he remembers — a solitary captain in the embrace of nature's timeless beauty.
