In a world where the gods hold all the power, Layten and his friends thought they understood the rules. But after being captured by the most powerful caster in Alos, Calmar, they find themselves trapped in a land where magic reigns supreme. With Vilom still plotting to carry out Sartum's task, Layten and his friends must navigate a world they never knew existed.

As Calmar uncovers secrets that could shatter the North and its beliefs, the truth behind Sartum's plan begins to emerge. Everyone seems to be playing a role, except for one enigmatic figure lurking in the shadows.

In this thrilling installment of the series, listeners will be captivated by the dangerous game of power and secrets unfolding. Will Layten and his friends find their way back home, or will they be lost in this magical world forever?

I enjoyed book 4 of "The Ascendant Path" even more than the earlier books. Once the audiobook started, I was so engrossed in the story that I had to listen until the end. This book explored even more the theme regarding the attraction and use of magic and how that power corrupts the user. This book ended on a cliffhanger, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. David Gurney's narration was engaging, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.
