In 1984, a doomsday vault was constructed on a remote island in the Arctic Ocean. Its purpose was to preserve Earth's genetic history in the event of a global catastrophe. Now, decades later, a second vault has been uncovered, this one resting where no one ever expected. And the problem is it's not ours.
Yet even more curious than the vault itself is what lies inside. Seeds. Millions of seeds. Each with a genetic embryo untouched and perfectly preserved. Waiting.
No one knows who built it. Or when. What we have managed to figure out is that whoever it was traveled an immense distance. For the sole purpose of hiding their genetic blueprints on Earth. But why?
Now, a small group of marine biologists and navy investigators have been assigned to find out. Before anyone else does. But Alison Shaw and John Clay are not prepared for what they are about to uncover. Beginning with the truth behind our own evolution.

Michael Grumley was unknown to me prior to “Breakthrough”, the first book in the series. I will admit I was a bit leery as I was afraid they would be to far-fetched and out there, being labeled as a sci-fi take on current times. But I enjoyed the first book and that led to the second and third, and now I feel like I’m gonna have to read them all.
I really enjoyed Catalyst, although I’m very sad we lost Juan in this story. Last night I was listening to it on my phone and I hated to put it away so I could go to bed. It was that good. The action and adventure in this whole series so far has been as good as any series I’ve read by David Baldacci. And I have appreciated the sci-fi element as well. Sometimes sci-if stories can get really “preachy”, but this series is not that way at all. You get the story without the sermon, and also without gratuitous sex, foul language, etc. What you do get is what you need to move the story line along and hold your interest. I highly recommend this book, as well as the two that precede it, “Breakthrough” and “Leap”.
A very good series so far
