New York Times bestselling author Karen Hawkins is back with a brand-new, sizzling series featuring three unforgettable, untamed brothers who must marry or risk losing their inheritance.

Dashing Scottish privateer Conner Douglas must marry a respectable, well-born woman—and soon, if he wants to secure his rightful inheritance. Determined to still explore the high seas as well as his mistresses’ beds, he aims to find a pliable wife who’ll turn a blind eye to his antics. And he knows just the woman—childhood friend and mousy spinster Miss Theodora Cumberbatch-Snowe.

Unbeknownst to Conner, meek and plain Theodora has been hopelessly in love with him for years. But unwilling to wait forever for what will never happen, Theodora plans to wed a kind—if unexciting—local landowner, leaving behind the wild Highlander of her dreams.

Yet Conner refuses to let his perfect wife get away. He chases her to Gretna Green and is shocked to discover the real Theodora is an ardent and wildly sensual woman. Soon he realizes his passion to win her has nothing to do with securing his inheritance and everything to do with earning the love of the unforgettable woman who has vowed to leave him in her past forever. But have his wandering ways chased the woman he loves away for good? Or can Conner convince Theodora to give him one last chance before she marries the wrong man?

Another cute story by Karen Hawkins. It reminded me of one of her MacLean stories. I wish that series was in audio.
After the death of his wife, The Duke of Hamilton promised her to make sure her 3 brothers marry. Middle brother, Conner Douglas must marry in 3 months or lose his in inheritance. He has no intention of giving up his freedom. So he heads off to a childhood acquaintance, now a lousy spinster. He believes she is the solution.
Let the chasing begin. Lots of laugh out loud moments. #Romance #funny #Scottish Narrator was very good! Very easy to listen to. Will definitely listen to him again!

There are so many opportunities the author misses. Theodora is a 27 year old spinster, but the reasons for this are not realistic for the time period. Making her 22/23 would work better. Theo has been madly in love with Conner, yet the author doesn’t do this justice. Not a lot of longing moments, and too many hurtful or vengeful ones. Theo seems to want to “get him back” for not noticing her. I also felt like the story dragged out, and introducing new characters was not a solution. The narration was fine.

Very enjoyable "elopement" story where the intended bride is eloping with the wrong groom. I love how Karen Hawkins inserts her love for pirates in this book as the Scot in question is a privateer. He definitely meets his match and his equal in Miss Theodora Cumberbach-Snowe (love the name!) who refuses to marry the man of her dreams without love. You go girlfriend!

I liked the story a great deal, and found the characters interesting and diverting. Nothing really new here, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Once again, it's the narration that drags the story down from a bit above average to mediocre. The Scots accent is pretty abysmal and there are far too many mispronounced words. Just for the record, ague is pronounced AA-gue, with a hard g, NOT og, as it's pronounced in the recording. This is a word that features importantly in the story, so it kind of drove me nuts.

But if you can endure the less than stellar narration I recommend the book for my fellow HR lovers. It's also the start of a series, so hopefully those will be enjoyable, too.

Fun, and somewhat unusual historical romance

This audio book is an almost perfect example of an historical romance. The dialogue is crisp and witty, with a tenderness that is not over done. When I spend eight to ten hours listening to a novel, I like to feel as if the characters are my companions. The characters in this book were excellent company. I hope Ms. Hawkins graces us with more of this series.

A Charming Story
