In the scorching summer of 1989, my second child, a son, entered the world, setting in motion a life-altering journey. Just four months later, a virus thrust him into a hospital, casting an uncertain shadow on our future.

As a mother, an unshakable instinct warned me of the virus’s aftermath. What unfolded defied expectations, testing my love, courage, determination, and resolve to protect my son labelled “autistic.” A pediatrician's callous advice to put him in a home fueled my determination; I refused to give up. Knowing nothing about autism, I embarked on an arduous journey to uncover ways to give my son the best life possible. Love and determination took a toll—emotionally, physically, and financially. My relationship crumbled, and I navigated single parenthood.
