Chance

A Texas Ranger in the late 1880s had a poor life expectancy. Too many outlaws, too lonely a vigil, and too many times, complacency. This last, the band of all law enforcement right up into this era.
Billy Verde had a lonely trail to ride on patrol, and through he faced down many outlaws and Mexican trespassers, it was a dull job. Mostly. Until, one day, it was not.
Then he discovered the afterlife. Maybe Purgatory, where the good and bad are somehow sorted out. He discovered Chance, an old Ranger who had been on the job in this odd world for more than fifty years, with a history no one can forget.
But Billy is not content to ride this curse into eternity. No, he could think, and he could plan. Somehow, he would free them all, Chance included. But he never knew where he would go when it all ended.
