A new entry in the wildly successful Children of Time series from award-winning master of science fiction Adrian Tchaikovsky.

After Earth fell, ark ships hunted for a new home. They sought lost worlds terraformed in Earth’s forgotten past. A ship crewed by maverick humans, spiders and a spectacularly punchy mantis shrimp captain is about to rediscover one such world, and an ark.

Then human crewmate Alis wakes to discover that she, her captain and the ship’s intelligence are the only ones left on their ship.

But what happened to those who left to explore the ark ... and the world below?

Children of Strife is the extraordinary next volume set in the Children of Time universe, featuring epic adventure, first contact and the nature of intelligence among the stars.

Epic scifi for the 21st century. A continuation of this mind bending series is a must read for anyone that’s made it this far. I personally like exposition - but I get it’s not for everyone.

Great read for those that love exposition

I always love the narrator of this series, and the CoT universe is One of my absolute favorites. This installation of the series was almost a throwback to the first, in tone and pacing, so I'm a massive fan of how the series has been orchestrated so far (for example, how this planet has been introduced.) This book is just very good, sincerely.

Fantastic expansion of this amazing universe!

This book was funnier than the others, in a dark, understated way. While other Children of books were more focused on what constitutes sapience, this book explores the notion of self deeply. It also asks what humans would do with godlike powers, and can a post-scarcity society based on tolerance really survive? Gave story four stars instead of five because of repetition but overall it was a solid entry in one of the best hard sci fi series ever.

Darkly funny
