Does God want His people to be happy, healthy, prosperous, and at peace? Yes! Absolutely! God wants His people to be happy, healthy, prosperous, and at peace! Then why aren’t they? Is there a place for suffering in our life? Is it ever God’s will for suffering to enter a Christian’s life? What exactly do I mean by suffering? The above referenced scripture indicates that adversity is an inherent part of human existence, just as it is certain that sparks rise upward.
At some point in life every person encounters a moment when the ground beneath their feet seems to give way. A diagnosis comes unexpectedly. A loved one is lost. A dream collapses. A betrayal wounds the heart. In these moments people often look toward heaven and ask the same ancient question: Why is this happening to me?
For Christians, the question can feel even more perplexing. If God loves His people and watches over them, why does He allow them to pass through seasons of hardship? Why do faithful believers experience illness, loss, persecution, disappointment, and sorrow? These questions are not new. They echo through the pages of Scripture and through the lives of believers across centuries. Yet the Bible presents a remarkable truth: suffering is not meaningless in the life of a believer. Trials, tribulations, and testings often become the very instruments God uses to shape character, deepen faith, and prepare His people for greater purposes.
