His lordship is in the House of Lords. His new bride is straight out of the schoolroom.
It's their first Christmas.
Lady Gwen Hallcroft organizes their holiday houseparty at the manor. She wants to be a credit to her husband, but she's feeling very insecure. After all, he's never told her that he loves her, not in words.
Lord Christopher Hallcroft thinks nothing of making a public speech. But he isn't able to say all that is in his heart. He's uncertain - what gift will prove how much he adores his new bride?

The story is actually very realistic in that the couple are newlyweds and, because they have taken society's traditional route to marriage, really don't know one another all that well. The story realistically portrays the insecurities, uncertainties and even one fight that are all common in newly married couples.
The sweet part is that the husband has a Christmas surprise planned for his wife and in his attempts to carry it out, feeds her insecurities and her doubts about her worth to him and his family.
The side characters are great and things definitely look up when his irreverent brother and sister show up for the holidays.
Gayle Buck's Regency romances seem more authentic to me than many of the Regency romances out there nowadays. Things are more formal and stiff, and true feelings aren't necessarily discussed. But I feel that this is probably more like things were back then: politeness and etiquette at all costs.
Narration: 5 stars
Julia Eve has a true British accent and her male voices are low enough that they sound male. Her expressions are excellent and she truly creates an atmosphere with her voice. I'm very impressed with her acting skills.
