Librarian Charlie Harris and his cat Diesel must catalog a killer in this mystery in the New York Times bestselling Cat in the Stacks series.

Suspecting that someone is stealing from him, the aging and eccentric James Delacorte wants Charlie to do an inventory on his rare book collection. Soon after they begin, Delacorte is found dead at his desk, leaving Charlie with the bigger task of solving his murder.

Immediately Charlie is suspicious of Delacorte's own family, and relies on the help of Diesel to paw around for clues. The cat and mouse game heats up after a highly valued copy of Edgar Allan Poe's Tamerlane goes missing and a second murder occurs. Now Charlie and Diesel must solve the case before the killer strikes a third time-and hope curiosity doesn't kill the cat . . .

Since the lead character is a male, the narrator should be a male. It’s very confusing with a female voice.

Loved the characters and the story unfolding about how they solved the "who done it" murders.

This is a terrific series, wonderful characters, good storyline development without being diluted in too many directions. Well written, entertaining, and completely enjoyable to read the relationship between a Maine Coon cat and the primary human in the story.

Great Storyline

I liked the stuff about the rare books. The Charlie Harris protagonist really needs a lot of work. He acts more like a woman than some women. His cat, Diesel, is JuST a cat - not the perfect creature the author makes him out to be. Guess I need something with more character depth ( and real flaws) not pablum. If you’re looking for something suited more for junior high or what we used to call a popcorn mystery- this is for you.
