Colin Hendricks is twenty.
For that matter, she is many things. She is breathtakingly beautiful, sweet and warm and lovable. She is also trouble.

A problem child since she was twelve years old, barely making her way through school and leaving behind a trail of discipline problems, her young adulthood has been marked by everything from underage drinking, including while driving, to a petty theft and careless driving in general.

Now she is facing a few days in jail, and her frustrated but overly lenient parents do not know where else to go, but to a long time friend, a Judge who had always offered his hand of friendship regarding their troubled daughter.

The judge is visited by Colin’s parents while she is still recuperating from a minor injury from her latest auto accident, caused by her drinking. And the judge indeed has a solution to offer: establishment of a guardianship over the young woman.

But this would not be a typical guardianship. Her guardian would be Tom Martindale, a widowed local cattle farmer with a history of assisting troubled young people.

His twenty-eight-year-old son Marcus would play a key role in helping to try to straighten Colin out, as they have done with a couple of other young adult women. Also in the home is his best friend’s daughter, who came to live with them at her own request to try to straighten out her own issues with a lack of responsibility.

What Colin does not know is that, in spite of the fact that she is an adult, lessons in behavior and respect are taught in the Martindale home by applying a hand or a paddle to an errant bare bottom, and quite emphatically for that matter. But unknown to Colin’s parents, the judge who establishes her guardianship, and the two Martindale men who will oversee her life for the time being, she has come to realize that it is just that form of discipline that has been lacking in her own life and would have served her well.

And when she realizes the conditions under which she is living, she does not rebel as may have been expected. But the great complicating factor is that she and Marcus found an immediate mutual attraction upon meeting. Colin is now faced with the possibility to change her life in many different ways.
