Jeremy:

A sudden inheritance allowed me to leave my job as an English professor.

I planned to sell my aunt’s house, hit the road, and figure out what the hell I really wanted out of life.

Then I met Connor. My intense attraction to him sent my head spinning, but he was nothing like me, a former marine, locked up tight in the closet when I wanted to live life out loud in the sunshine. Did we even stand a chance?

Connor:

I used to put my life on the line every day in my Force Recon unit. Now I run Spit Shine Clean, scrubbing toilets and dusting mantels for a living.

When a soft-spoken man hires me to get his house ready to sell, I wasn’t expecting my life to turn upside down once again.

From the moment I saw him, he was all I craved, but the ghosts of my past weighed me down. Was I capable of being the guy Jeremy deserved? Maybe not, but the pull of attraction was undeniable. This might be the biggest risk of my life.

a coming out story with a wonderful couple. HEA. The narration is good and definitely brought this book to life. Michael Dean and Sylvia Violet never disappoint.

I love this author and narrator so I bought this book without much thought and I admit fear of coming out is not my favorite theme. So take this with a grain of salt. But this might be one of a handful of books where I stopped rooting for the couple. They really shouldn’t be together.

Connor is frankly toxic and the entire story supports his toxicity even though he treats Jeremy terribly through the book. Runs away, jumps to conclusions, expects honestly and openness when he’s lying and refusing to come out. Acts like Jeremy is responsible for his coming out. Jeremy is constantly making excuses for him and blaming himself for Connor’s behavior, even when Connor is gaslighting him. Connor needs to go to therapy and Jeremy should find someone better.
