Kayla Covington—a successful model, trusted friend, and beloved sister—has her life straight. After being rejected by her longtime crush, Michael, Kayla, takes a job offer that has her moving across the country to New York. During an annual friend’s trip, Kayla is caught off guard when Michael tightly takes a knee and asks her to marry him. She knows that for him, she would stay in Oklahoma. The next morning, sober, he regrets it all, leaving Kayla determined to go through with the move.

A new state, new friends, and a fresh start give Kayla hope that life can be good again—until a doctor’s appointment changes everything. Will Kayla cling to the new life she’s building, or will she work hard to regain what was once hers?

Please note that Coming Home contains content that may be sensitive to some readers. Some scenes include the mention of foster care, parental neglect and abuse, abandonment, the death of parents, and a panic attack.

This book was a little tougher to get through. I still couldn’t put it down, it was the unwanted love that brought up bad memories & dreams. But I still enjoyed the book. It’s a good closed door romance with trauma & most importantly healing from that trauma. The respect of boundaries & taking the time to heal was beautifully written. It did not feel rushed & definitely did the characters justice.

Update: I was able to listen to Lisa Lynn Sandlin bring this story to life. She did an amazing job. This book really tugs are your heartstrings as you listen to Kayla and Mike's story unfold. I applaud the accurate representation on dealing with abandonment and communication in this book. Healing takes time and this takes over the span of i think 4-6 months. which is definitely believable especially if the person is truly dedicated to change. Lisa really makes you feel like you are there with Kayla and you just want to give her a hug while she cries. For those looking for a book with a healing journey this is the book for you.
