I saw this as a musical years ago and I still think about it- it’s the whole reason I wanted to revisit the story. I will say the narrative style gets confusing, as it’s told from an omnipotent voice and goes from the perspective of a child to an adult in a sentence. And part 1 is a tad slow going, but once there was 2 hours left I couldn’t stop listening. Makes me want to see the musical again.
