Parker Mandli arrives in Mayville with fresh wounds and a litany of failures. Determined to put those mistakes behind her and start a new venture, she opens a shoe store in the artsy Tomlinson Street neighborhood—right across the street from Fire Station Two.

Cate Wildman is a no-nonsense, by-the-book firefighter dedicated to her job with precious little time for romance. But when she shows up to conduct a fire inspection in Parker's new store, Cate's carefully curated life is thrown into a tailspin.

Soon both women find themselves in a romance hotter than a five-alarm fire and both are forced to reckon with their pasts. Can Parker learn to trust herself again? Will Cate finally break free from old trauma? Or will the heat of desire cause everything to come crashing down....

I believe this was a debut by KP Evans - I picked it up after E.J. Noyes recommended it on one of her socials. I respect her work a lot, and now I can also say I respect her word.

I thought this was an excellent book. The pace was good, there weren't really any lulls in the story, And it never felt like too much information had to be dumped into one place for continuity. The character development and slow burn of the romance were on point. It wasn't insta-love, which I appreciate, but it also wasn't one of those where the longing loooongs until the last 3 chapters, which I also appreciate. The spice was well done.

The MCs were interesting and their professions made this book more appealing to me. I am a police officer, so I consider firefighters my cousins - and it was nice to see first responder representation in a MC. I know Radclyffe and Geri Hill feature my profession a lot more, but I haven't made it to them on my TBR yet. I knew nothing of the shoe industry, so anytime I can learn about something while also enjoying a sapphic romance, I count it as a win.

I'm not expert in literature and have only really gotten into reading over the past year, but I've done some damage in that time, trust me. So, while I may not write reviews well enough to have ARCs stacking up (zero, I have zero ARCs - lol), I will say that I would recommend this book. It's got grumpy/sunshine, slowish burn, good spice, likeable side characters and overall it's just different enough to stand out, but also meets the expectations of a good sapphic romance.

Look forward to more from KP Evans!

I loved Parker and Cate and their story was wonderful. If KP Evans writes more books, I’ll buy them! The narration by M.K. Blackwood was excellent.

What a great story. It made me laugh and cry. It really spent the majority of the story building the couples relationship, which I loved. It also made me want to donate to the charity ball fundraiser! It has some spice and lots of heart.

Loved it
