A manifesto for deep and radical change, Creating Freedom explores the limits placed on freedom by human nature and society. It explodes myths, calling for a profound transformation in the way we think about democracy, equality, and our own identities.

Free markets, free elections, free media, free thought, free speech, free will - the language of freedom pervades our lives, framing the most urgent issues of our time and the deepest questions about who we are and who we want to be. It is a foundational concept at the heart of our civilization, but it has long been distorted to justify its opposite: soaring inequality, the erosion of democracy, an irrational criminal justice system, and a dehumanizing foreign policy. Raoul Martinez argues that the more we understand the limits on our freedom, the better placed we are to transcend them. Drawing together findings and ideas from neuroscience, criminology, psychology, politics, climate science, economics, and philosophy, Creating Freedom constructs a radical framework to make sense of the world and empower us to change it. This is a wide-ranging analysis of power, control, and freedom, which asks us to question our inherited identities, question our society, and turn the power to choose into the freedom to create.

Experiencing the worst tends to bring out the best. I find enlightenment in this book while facing my own mistake and pain, I find a deeper layer in myself which is only visible through my own and my family's suffering, ig. empathy, compassion etc that I never gave a second thought.

There is a long way to go for my and my family's salvation, his words helps me ease through some of the difficult time.

This book has a definitive point of view that may be off putting to anyone who relies on broad generalizations and oversimplified partisanship to define identity, belonging, and policy. Martinez expertly explains the intricate and overlapping complexities of economics, ethics, and politics. He offers practical potential policy solutions, though they may be largely implausible in our current global sociopolitical climate—and that is his point: in order to execute equitable and ethical social policy, we must change the social climate, starting with the space in each of our own minds.
Highly recommend.

I've rarely been as deeply moved by a book as I was by this brilliant philosophical manifesto. This is blueprint for a joyous egalitarian future, and a vision for true progressive thinkers worldwide to reach for and build. I can't praise this book or its author enough.
