To understand how the macabre death of Francis Mawson Rattenbury could have happened, you have to study his life. He was a murdered genius. A victim of love. He was an architectural virtuoso who designed some of Canada's most memorable structures. Rattenbury dreamed on the grandest of scales and created edifices that remain incredible sonnets in wood and stone a century after his blueprints were penned. But, he was also a man of meagre empathy and faint regard for others, a victim of his urges who died a bludgeoned cuckold to a woman half his age. His murder and the sensational trial that followed his death spawned books, plays, and movies. His buildings remain landmarks, but he was truly a forgotten Canadian hero.

This historical account of Victoria's most prominent architect and celebrity of his day there, is excellent. The narration is very well done. The reading and voice is pleasant to the ear.

As a person born and raised in Victoria, I appreciated getting an in-depth look into a person who had a significant influence on both cities of Victoria and Oak Bay. I'd encourage anyone born or residing, it further residents of Victoria, nay BC, to read or listen to this book.
