What You’ll Learn
This course includes Lessons 6-10 from the Czech Level 1 program featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Czech.

Excellent as always from Pimsleur, except ...

Compared to the similar level Pimsleur lessons in other languages (Spanish, German, Hungarian), Czech 6-10 goes too fast. I had to use the Audible App at 75 percent of full speed -- fortunately not distorting the voices -- in order to hear what was said and to have time to repeat. But that worked. The other thing I have trouble generally with is hearing the foreign speaker's consonants. Contrary to instructions, I frequently go to Google Translate to see the words spelled out in order to clarify that. Also, the speakers in various languages sometimes vary significantly in their pronunciation.

Another idiosyncrasy in the Czech, unlike other Pimsleur programs, is that it always assumes the student is a man.

But it is worth it to get past all of that. The programs are always excellent.
