When his ship is torpedoed by a German U-Boat during World War I, a man is taken prisoner by the Germans. Later, he escapes from the U-Boat to the sea, where he discovers a vast body of land, previously submersed on the Pacific Ocean floor, recently ripped from it through some geological upheaval, and bearing evidence that a highly intelligent, monstrous, race shares dominion of the Earth with humanity, and for the moment exercising it's rule only on the ocean floor. But how long will these beings be content only ruling the oceans?

What disappointed you about Dagon?

The narration was just awful. Besides the rather forced sinister tone with which it is delivered, the special effects applied to the voice made it nearly impossible to follow.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

This is a good albeit short example of Lovecraft's early work in what became known much later on as the Cthulhu Mythos. As a result, though it is a good sampling of what was to come, it is just a sampling.

How could the performance have been better?

It could scarcely have been worse. It could have done without the tone in which it was delivered, which wasn't authentic and overpowers the listener. The special effects applied to the voice are the worst part though.

Lesson learned: always listen to the sample first

After purchasing three hundred plus books from audible this is my first unquestionable regret. Combining a great author with an absolute unintelligible narrator is a waste of time and money!
