While attempting to abduct a teenager from her home, sadistic serial killer Victor Brooks meets his match: ten 9mm bullets. In a puddle of his own blood, sprawled across a stranger’s kitchen floor, Victor’s life begins to flash before his very eyes. He sees the living and the dead, peace and carnage, friends and foes, success and disappointment, love and hatred. He sees a life defined by rage, suffering, and despair. The light at the end of Victor's tunnel is red—red with blood.

Jon Athan, the author of "The Groomer" and "Are Your Parents Home?," takes you on a journey through a serial killer’s life—from death to adolescence—in one of his bleakest, most disturbing novels to date. This is the making of a serial killer. This is the story of a man damned from birth.

I have been reading books f I have been reading books from this author all year since I discovered him with The Groomer success. Every book is better than the other. Honestly, the things in his mind that he conveys in paper are just amazing! Something I really like about him is how he explains what things are for, for example, if someone just slashed an artery in your body he will explain what is that artery for! I know its the little things sometimes that makes you keep on going but for me than little thing its huge!!! Explain the word/function right there for me please, makes me a happy reader. In this specific book, read in one day, Damned From Birth, is just that, how a person can go through so much crap in life that influences how you act/react in your life. Its hard not to feel bad for this kid and I enjoyed the chronological order of the book. Very interesting. Have another Jon Athan book ready to read tomorrow and I cannot wait. Check this author out if you are into extreme horror books. Happy reading! rom this author all year since I discovered him with The Groomer success. Every book is better than the other. This has been one of my absolute favorite releases by Jon Athan, and I love all of his books. I love the progression of this story from the end of Vic’s life all the way back to the beginning, it is a heart wrenching view into the life of a terrible, twisted man who was once a helpless and innocent boy. The only thing I would add as a criticism was that it was a little hard to keep track of the time jumps. Loved this!

Heart wrenching

Wonderful story. Sympathy for the main character grows, despite his horrendous acts. Backwards from point of destruction.

Most excellent story

The story is bleak AF but it is enjoyable in that Beau Thomas makes it more than just a read out loud story, but a visceral experience like he is telling it around the campfire to scare the shit out of his buddies. This author and narrator duo never disappoint.

Depressing but good

This book is definitely top 3 by this author and I’ve read about 90% of his work. Despite it being a horror book, the story is the main character pulls on the heart strings especially at the end. This was a phenomenal, accelerating story!!
