'A terse, tense brand of hard-boiled action suspense . . . addictive.' THE AGE

In war-torn Syria, a massacre survivor is pulled from beneath a pile of bodies. She is given one instruction: 'Find Jed Walker.'

Walker is ex-CIA - a man who thought he was long out of the game. Discovering a terror outfit is running people-smuggling from the Middle East and into the United States, he is drawn back in to fight their evil trade. At first Walker thinks these human traffickers are driven purely by profit and greed. But it is much worse than that - and it has ties to the highest levels of power.

As the body count rises, and deadly enemies stalk from the shadows, Walker uncovers the shocking truth behind an operation intended to bring America to its knees. As he attempts to make things right, Jed Walker will learn the true cost of life - and pay a devastating price.

It's a continuation of the Jed Walker Zodiac story. There are lots of twists and turns and the Aussie narrator messes up the prononciation of a lot of very standard words but has a nice cadence so we can overlook them. There are still lots of unanswered questions regarding David Walker and the entire Zodiac project was abruptly ended and summarized in a paragraph or two. That left me a bit unsatisfied.

i read Lee Cline (jack reacher); Mark Greaney (Gray Man); TEWoods (The Fixer) among others and love the subtle reference in Chapter 26 to jack reacher and the subtle Gray Man's approach through out all 4 books especially this one to the CIA, Home Land, FBI, etc and weapon details, velocities and uses. The incident at the Senator's mansion in the country and at the Cincinnati building were well described and a great examples of how Phelan has learned to build tension with incidents involving his hero, JW. Again almost Reacher and Gray Man in detail and scope. Hopefully JW will not completely settle down, but Phelan did a wonderful job of bringing all 4 books together and to a great conclusion. congrats on a great series and great audible books. jeff lantz

Look out Gray Man and Jack Reacher

Of the 4 books in this series to date, this is the one I found the least satisfying. It moved right along, lots of action, some character development and depth but was missing something which is why I couldn't give it 5 stars. It also didn't leave me wanting a 'next' book.

Not the ending I expected

I did enjoy the first two books of the Jed Walker series, not as much the third, but this one is truly awful and not worth it. Even for a Jedi Walker thriller, the plot is ludicrous. Skip this one for sure.
