“There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more.” (Lord Byron)

After receiving an unexpected gift following her college graduation, aspiring journalist Adele Plank returns to the Pacific Northwest’s beautiful and isolated sea and shores landscape of the San Juan Islands, where she soon finds herself immersed in the shocking mystery of a young woman’s brutal murder.

The deathly discovery rocks the island community, stirring doubts about their new sheriff and turning old friends into new rivals.

Adele must determine who she can trust and who she cannot, even as a mysterious stranger provides her a critical clue.

Dark Waters is the second thrilling installment of the San Juan Islands Mystery series.

Finally a series that captures and holds my attention. The story is well written and well developed characters. I love Adele, she is a journalist that has recently graduated and finds herself back at San Juan Islands investigating another murder. I lived on Whidbey Island for 10+ years so I also enjoy the setting/location of the book. If you enjoy mysteries I highly recommend this series.

Great Series

D.W. Ulsterman weaves a wonderful tail through intrigue and mystery in this San Juan Islands story. My yearning to once again visit the San Juan Islands is soothed by the adventures of his heroine, Adelle, as she unravels mystery after mystery-- always with the intent to, "do the right thing." Terrific. I couldn't put it down.

Captivating

I love his other series, the San Juan Mysteries with Adele Plank, and wish there were more available on audible. I tried this one which is set in an earlier time, but it is very gruesome, at least in the beginning several chapters, so I finally gave up on it. I went to the bookstore and bought a copy of the third in his other series instead.

Heavy on the dark and gory
