Just when Nikki Braxton has given up on finding a normal guy, she meets cowboy Jake McCann. Tall, dark, and delicious, he could be the ideal man...if he wasn't a vampire. Well, at least that explains his...uh...hunger for her.
Meanwhile, that down-and-dirty sex they're having is giving him the energy he needs to destroy his nemesis and break the vampire curse. Good thing, because being with Nikki makes him long for a normal life that much more.
But then Nikki is abducted. If Jake saves her, he may lose his only shot at becoming human again. Talk about damned if you do....

Jake McCann lives on blood and sexual energy, he needs either to survive and provide him with strength, so he's used to one night stands with women and moving on. But if he's to reclaim his humanity he must kill the vampire who turned him and that means spending time in Skull Creek until his maker arrives to mark the day his maker was turned. So, when he sets his sights on Nikki Braxton it's as a source of energy, not a relationship.
As for Nikki, she's spent her life trying to find the balancing point between her Aunt - the 'good' one, and her mother the 'bad' one. One expects her to be a saint, the other wants her to dive headfirst, without a life guard, into being a bad girl. All she wants is the chance to be herself, whoever that might be.
Meeting Jake, who she believes is simply passing through and will be gone come morning, gives her a chance to be the bad girl - even if only for one night. But all backfires when rumor has her engaged to Jake before she can blink, and the infuriating man hasn't left town - and doesn't plan on doing so for another six days...
All in all a very satisfying read/listen. The narrator worked very well for this one. Her male voices didn't come off as sissy, but were well portrayed.
Decliously dead and sexy.
