Grieving and distraught Atlanta socialite, Ria Walsh is struggling to recover from a desperate loss. When the ZA starts she is isolated in a treatment center, until her brother Andy retrieves her. Brother and sister head off to join a group of friends, only to find their friends have been murdered by a gang calling themselves the Inferno. Andy and Ria find refugees and in the course of the following year became integral in helping them establish a secure farming community. Once again the Inferno strike unleashing a herd of the dead. Ria finds herself alone, raging against the world she unleashes a rampage against any dead or Inferno that cross her path. As her anger ebbs she finds a nomadic group of families searching the wasteland for a sanctuary and introduces herself as Red. Hounded by the Inferno, Red and the group run headlong in the religious cult the True Believers. If her new family is to remain safe, Red must rise.
