This first installment of a cozy mystery series transports listeners back to the bygone era of 1923 Britain, where unflappable flapper and fledgling journalist Daisy Dalrymple daringly embarks on her first writing assignment, and promptly stumbles across a corpse.

No stranger to sprawling country estates, wealthy Daisy Dalrymple is breaking new ground in having scandalously traded silver spoon for pen and camera to cover a story for Town and Country magazine. But her planned interviews with the inhabitants of Wentwater Court give way to interrogation after suave Lord Stephen Astwick meets a dire fate on the tranquil skating pond.

Armed with evidence that his fate was anything but accidental, Daisy joins forces with Scotland Yard to examine an esteemed collection of suspects and to see that the unlikely culprit doesn't slip through their fingers just as the unfortunate Astwick slipped through the ice.

The writing is okay. The characters are a little childish and sappy and everything seems to be in their favor. But it’s a pleasant novel. Light reading

A little sappy but not bad

Would you try another book from Carola Dunn and/or Bernadette Dunne?

yes - I am curious to see exactly where Daisy goes from here. Her character is very quick witted

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was not your standard 'cozy' ending - the perspective taken was different, which made it interesting - Hard to talk about without giving things away!

What about Bernadette Dunne’s performance did you like?

Her performance voiced the characters very well - without distracting from the story

Could you see Death at Wentwater Court being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

There is too much 'back story' that would have to be left out, and I think it would make the story very ordinary

Any additional comments?

I look forward to getting to know Daisy more

Surprisingly Smart

The best thing is that I get to see the characters as they improve in clarity and presence as well as listen to Bernadette Dunne narrator settle into the roles of the characters as the series progresses.
This is first in series and we get to meet all the main characters for the first time. I had started with the one after this, and while it did well enough as a stand alone, I wanted to begin at the beginning. The plot is well drawn and the conclusion is startling but it's the characters that really drive the story! Especially when it appears that another case might be involved. Loved it!

Great series and great narrator!
