Annie Darling - owner of the mystery bookstore, Death on Demand - prefers fictional crimes as opposed to the real things. But in one tragic week, two acts of violence shake the island community of Broward's Rock. First, a beloved doctor is found shot dead, seemingly by his own hand. Only days later, a local artist is arrested after his wife is murdered. Convinced her brother did not commit suicide, the doctor's sister turns to Annie and her husband, Max, for help. She has found a cryptic sketch her brother drew, linking him with the murdered woman. With the police considering both cases as good as closed, it's up to Annie and Max to sort through a rogues' gallery of suspects to see if someone is trying to frame the artist.

Annie's whining is getting on my nerves. She's just to predictable. Maybe Book 25 so better.

Oh Well

What would have made Death at the Door better?

I have loved this series because I love Annie and Max Darling and I love the time she spends at the bookstore with all the other goofy female characters.

What was most disappointing about Carolyn Hart’s story?

This story had NO side stories about the beloved characters in the Death On Demand Series. I had to stop the book halfway through as I could not bear the grossly exaggerated descriptions of every little motion made or emotion felt.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Voice was way too syrupy.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Nope, especially given that the series has been excellent and this was such a divergence from the series.

Uggh! Very disappointing last novel!

What would have made Death at the Door better?

Some excitement, a narrator that could read like the cared.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Another author, not this one. Was looking to add to the list of books I read/listen to, but won't be adding this author or narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kate Reading’s performances?

No

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment

Can someone wake me when the book is finished...

I really found this mystery to have too many characters, too many lists; it was especially tedious to get through as an audiobook.

Too much of a good thing
