An almost 20-year-old unsolved murder from Florida’s pot-hauling days gets Hannah Smith’s attention, but so does a more immediate problem. A private museum devoted solely to the state’s earliest settlers and pioneers has been announced, and many of Hannah’s friends and neighbors in Sulfur Wells are being pressured to make contributions.

The problem is the whole thing is a scam, and when Hannah sets out to uncover who’s behind it, she discovers that things are even worse than she thought. The museum scam is a front for a real estate power play, her entire village is in danger of being wiped out—and the forces behind it have no intention of letting anything, or anyone, stand in their way.

Critic reviews

Praise for DECEIVED

“Hannah brings a fresh perspective to White’s much-loved southwest Florida world.” ––Booklist (starred review)

“Hannah’s just getting started . . . With his keen eye for Florida and its unique cast of characters, even man’s man White should have no trouble investing her with a voice all her own.” ––Tampa Tribune

“Wanted: Gorgeous island woman who is also a fishing guide and a part-time private eye. What’s not to love?... Looks to be a successful entry to the genre.” ––Florida Times-Union

“Hannah is more fully realized, self-sufficient and smart, and her deep knowledge of the island community is an integral part of the story. No wonder Doc digs her.”––Tampa Bay Times

“[An] entertaining crime thriller . . . White’s evocative descriptions of life on Florida’s Gulf Coast, both human and animal, win this series its rightful place in the ever-popular Florida crime fiction genre.”—Publishers Weekly

I’m a fan of RWWhite thanks to the Doc Ford series. I love his characters and their development and now the interweaving with the characters between the series. Narration was ok but needed help with male character voices.

Another Good RWW story

The Hannah Smith novels are o.k., but I really just prefer the Doc Ford novels..

Mediocre.

I purchased books 2-4 on sale as I now like Ms Raudman as a narrator, her mysteries reads are good. Unfortunately, I never seem to follow reviewer Shelly’s advise and read in order! So of course I am going from 4 back to the beginning. Thank goodness I am able to do this, but I must stop it. LOL. I love fast action, and I find developments of characters a bit slow from authors that are new to me. This is a good series, disregard the negative reviews!!
Were my comments of help?

Read in Order, If Possible

I love the characters. Especially Bertie! Very good story - had me hooked to the end. Pretty gruesome - perfect reading to put me in the mood for Halloween.
I like the tie in with Doc Ford and Tomlinson. . Read all of Doc Ford and I like the different point of view.

Chilling!

Ending was too weird. Very exciting read. Got a bit into the weeds over homosexuality. Fun to listen to a story and real history woven into a fascinating story about where I actually live and work. I appreciate Mr White’s kindness and real understanding of the unique daily life issues of living on the “Paradise Coast.”

Looking past the glitz.
