A competitive diver and an ace swimmer jump into forbidden waters in this steamy college romance from the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis.

Scarlett Vandermeer is swimming upstream. A Junior at Stanford and a student-athlete who specializes in platform diving, Scarlett prefers to keep her head down, concentrating on getting into med school and on recovering from the injury that almost ended her career. She has no time for relationships—at least, that’s what she tells herself.

Swim captain, world champion, all-around aquatics golden boy, Lukas Blomqvist thrives on discipline. It’s how he wins gold medals and breaks records: complete focus, with every stroke. On the surface, Lukas and Scarlett have nothing in common. Until a well-guarded secret slips out, and everything changes.

So they start an arrangement. And as the pressure leading to the Olympics heats up, so does their relationship. It was supposed to be just a temporary, mutually satisfying fling. But when staying away from Lukas becomes impossible, Scarlett realizes that her heart might be treading into dangerous water...

“There are lots of books out there trying to be Ali Hazelwood novels, but there’s only one Ali Hazelwood—and that’s because she doesn’t just write smart romances, she employs sorcery so that the reader falls in love with the characters as they fall in love with each other. Deep End—set in the world of competitive swimming and diving—is a stroke of genius: perfect tens, across the board.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult

“Gloriously nerdy and sexy, with on-point commentary about women in STEM.”—New York Times bestselling author Helen Hoang on Love on the Brain

Editorial Review

I dove headfirst into this listen
After that headline I will try to keep my water puns to a minimum, but let me just say that someone may need to douse you with ice water after listening to Ali Hazelwood’s latest. Deep End has all the brainy chemistry (physical and otherwise) I’ve come to love and expect from Hazelwood’s novels ... with a healthy dose of BDSM tossed in. Stanford diving star Scarlett Vandermeer has been laser-focused on coming back from a season-ending injury and getting herself into med school. Romance, relationships, even friendships don’t really factor into that equation. Swim captain and world champion Lukas Blomqvist is similarly focused, until a secret thrusts Lukas and Scarlett together, and their mutual attraction bubbles to the surface (sorry, last one). Performed by Thérèse Plummer with Ben Holtzmuller, Deep End is filled with STEMinist energy, a few Easter eggs for longtime fans, and enough steam to quench your thirst[traps] this Valentine’s season. —Katie O., Audible Editor

I loved the male narrators voice, but I wasn’t a fan of hers. Ali does write some great stuff.

Funny, interesting characters

5 stars!!!!!! I loved it so so much… I need a Swedish man who’s also a nerdy pre med Olympic swimmer completely obsessed w me omfg. The amount of serotonin this book gave me... I had to willingly keep pausing in order to take my time and savor the feeling…

As a STEM female, I love Ali's STEM romances and this one was a particular triumph due to a great story, great characters, great narration with a backdrop of diving and a little swimming. I was a competitive swimmer and the depiction is spot on. The internal deliberation of the main character resonated for me and I enjoyed hearing a different, lighter, portrayal of BDSM. Looking forward to the next one - maybe a sequel to Bride?

Pool STEM Triumph!

Not the biggest Ali Hazelwood fan, but this was definitely amazing! Some people mention not liking the Swedish accent but I liked it! I loved the female narrator and just the detail Ali went into!

Great performance
