A steamy, high-stakes, standalone romantic suspense

I’m Elijah Rhodes top-tier Guardian Security agent. We protect the world’s power players: heads of state, royalty, A-listers. The elite.
I didn’t grow up with much, and nothing came easy. My time in Special Ops hardened me, gave me purpose, and left me with a black heart. I took the missions no one else would. Still do.

My rules are simple:
No long-term assignments.

No repeats.
No attachments.
Keep it professional. Keep it distant.

It’s how I’ve survived. Until her.

Dr. Danielle Sinclair is brilliant, beautiful, off-limits. I protected her, then did what I always do. I walked away.

Now, a year later, tragedy strikes. Dani’s life is in danger, and every instinct in me demands I break my own rules to keep her safe.

Some lines shouldn’t be crossed.

Some rules were made to be broken.

I’ll protect Dani with my life, but I can’t give her a heart I don’t have.

Have you been Aleatha’d?

DEFENDING LOVE is a steamy, high-stakes, standalone romantic suspense with bodyguard vibes, second chances, and all the feels—set in the same world as the Sinclair Duet.

The romance aspect of this story was spicy between a bodyguard, Elijah, and the woman he's hired to protect, Dr. Danielle Sinclair, sister of Damien from the Sinclair Duet. The spicy chemistry between Elijah and Danielle is undeniable. The suspense aspect of the story was a bit rough.
A sudden tragedy strikes the Sinclair family which creates unrest within the family business, distrust among family members, and deadly threats to Danielle. I loved the complex nature of these three things, but the story seemed rushed as some details were glossed over leaving me scratching my head about what exactly happened to the "villain". Narrators, Sabastian Grove and Chloe Ryan did a wonderful job of bringing Elijah and Danielle to life, especially in creating the suspenseful aspect of the story.

This author is one of my automatic one-clicks for anything and everything she writes. This is a great storyline - lots of intrigue, mystery, unforeseen twists and an HEA - what more could you ask for? I have rated the narration at 3 stars, only because I think it could use some improvement, not because it was "bad". The dual narration is always a plus, but these narrators were somewhat stilted in their performance. Still, it was an enjoyable listen and I recommend this book. This book is a stand alone and can be enjoyed on its own. But, if you want more, check out Aleatha's other books set in the Sinclair universe - they're awesome!

Sad to say it but this book didn't work for me. The characters weren't well drawn. I wasn't invested or interested in them or their journey. My mind kept wandering while reading it. The suspense didn’t draw me in, in fact it felt very meh. This book just wasn't for me. The narrators had pleasant voices. I have read and loved by this author but this one was a miss for me.
