Darlene Ortiz was with Ice T for 17 years, beginning with his early days hustlin' on the streets and his subsequent rise to fame. In Definition of Down: My Life with Ice T & the Birth of Hip Hop, she tells how hip hop started, with intimate glimpses into their daily life and stories about their climb to the top and all the rappers who got their start in those times.

I didn't realize how important Darlene Ortiz had a huge role in the hip hop industry. She was the true and original ride and did chick, a very rare find in this day and age.

WOW!! PHENOMENAL

As a child of hip hop born in 1981 who remembers Darlene's iconic appearance on the Power cover, listening to this book definitely painted an in depth picture of her upbringing and relationship with Ice-T. Darlene was many of our first crush and is still beautiful to this day. If everything she said in this book is accurate, she is definitely the definition of down. The part with the white scorpion crawling out of Ice-T's bag definitely seems like an omen of some sort. Much Respect 🔥🔥🔥

I thoroughly enjoyed this!🔥

I love this book! Darlene told her raw story. I watch her on Corey Holcomb show and I can testify, she is down and loyal. This book made me cry in the end.

Loyal Darlene

This was a great and very important hip hop story. We don't always get to hear points of view from our women in hip hop. The only minor thing I didn't understand were the bad takes and mistakes that were not edited out. Other than that, this is an excellent book!

Excellent Listen!
