Career criminal Brady Ross has a problem. He's fallen in love with the wrong woman, a nurse from the straight world named Mary Carson.

Brady's friends have warned him that he can't have a foot in both worlds. They've told him that he's either in the life all the way or must walk the straight and narrow, but Brady is determined to prove them wrong, as he hides his true self from Mary while still pulling heists.

Meanwhile, while giving care to the man's dying wife, Mary has developed a friendship with Clay Richards, the local Chief of Police of Destination, Vermont, a town also known as Desolation to the locals, because the lake that once attracted visitors and prosperity dried up decades earlier.

After a robbery doesn't go as planned, Brady and his gang seek refuge in Desolation Lake, and Brady's two worlds collide, leaving him to choose between the woman he loves, or the lure of easy money.

Interesting story, but I like Tanner better

The story kept me interested. The attraction between Brady and Mary seemed a bit forced - two entirely different sets of values. I didn't like his former girlfriend Shay (sp.). Bit more sexual content than I like, so I prefer the Tanner series. However, Remington Kane never bores, so if he writes it, I'll read/listen to it..
