Coming into marriage with high hopes, Shawna faced a cascade of devastating events: divorce, remarriage, infidelity, and emotional neglect in a neurodiverse marriage. With few options left for healing and recovery she remained determined for more.

In this authentic account of a wife who is given God's grace far beyond her own strength, the listener can follow Shawna as she loves, weeps, pleads and grieves, and ceaselessly fights for something she believes is possible. Her story is a real and raw account of twenty-five years of striving and remaining willing to find a faith-filled hope in Christ forged by painfully compounded losses.

This book is for wives who are:

  • desperate to know what is causing the deep pain in their own stories.
  • persistently searching for answers and appealing for change.
  • grieving marital losses but striving to accept their relational realities.
  • enduring the pain of uncertainty but expectantly awaiting transformation.
  • committed to purposeful growth despite their marital difficulties.

Authentic and pure of heart this book gives me hope in my own story. Beautiful in sharing how two very different minds can work towards healing together and individually.

I am encouraged by this book and the honest struggles that the author faces in her marriage. iblistened to it over one weekend and felt as if a friend was sharing to me the depths of her heart.
The only thing that makes me rate it 4 instead of 5 stars is that the story as a whole is often more like a collection of stories and can feel a little disjointed. especially because autism is mentioned in the title, I felt myself anticipating more about this dynamic, which didn't come until late in the book. However, when it did, her words and encouragement were helpful to me personally.

honest and hopeful

I’ve felt so confused regarding what is going on in my relationship. I’ve always known it in my heart of hearts that there is something else going on with my spouse besides “just” a sex addiction, and I do not use the term “just” lightly. Shawna’s book answered so many questions and clarified so much confusion that I have been experiencing. My spouse is no doubt neurodivergent after listening to this book. It all makes sense now. I knew we were dealing with something more than sex addiction. Thank you Shawna for putting words to what I have been experiencing for a half a decade now. Autism, I am dealing with a spouse who has autism, although I have no idea where to go from here, I at least now can identify what exactly we are dealing with.

Oh how I relate!!

I met the author at a conference, and got the audiobook afterward. I was surprised at how openly she shared in this story about some very deep struggles in her marriage. The details of her story, especially the account or her internal processing, helps me relate to women who've been betrayed by their spouse, because I usually hear the husband's side of the story. I appreciated the symbolic imagery, and the author's reading voice was pleasant and vulnerable. One of the most helpful aspects of this story is how it threads through descriptions of recovery and therapeutic concepts and practices. The narrative makes it relatable and kept me listening, but the concepts and practices helped me pull together and better understand things I'd been hearing in recovery circles and gave me further motivation to get back into counseling. Well done!

Raw story as a teaching tool

I purchased this book because I heard Shana talk on a podcast. I guess I was hoping for a happy ending. That is absolutely not the case in this book. I could’ve written the story myself although I’m just new to this journey. This book does not give me hope for going forward.

Definitely not a hopeful book
