Malacca Longwood is a New York City detective. He catches an especially vicious serial killer, Halyard Moonleigh, who is convicted and imprisoned, but he escapes and disappears.

Three years later the killer reappears in Malacca's home town, a place the detective left, physically and emotionally, years before. Now he must go back and confront old animosities, including racial slurs, so he can finally find and destroy Moonleigh.

Malacca has help that no one else can claim: his grandmother. She has been dead for 22 years but has never truly left him.

I really enjoyed the story itself however The narrator was terrible. I think the book would have been a lot better if the narrator has shown some emotion. Sentences were often run together so I had to think about them before they made sense. He hardly voice characters at all and wasn't consistent in it if he did. There was a point where three people were having a conversation and it sounded like the same person and one of them was a girl. I could have used a few less "hon" and "love" and so forth by the main character and his girlfriend but this may have actually been OK if the narrator was better. That being said, the book itself is pretty good and worth a listen/read. I figured out the twist pretty quickly but it didn't take away from the story and I wanted to finish it. Give it a try I think you'll enjoy it. I was given a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

Wasn't a bad book. It was the first one I have listened to by this author. The story moved fairly well although I managed to figure parts of the story before the author revealed them. Enjoy the book!

Not a bad book, give it a read.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book from Audiobook Blast in return for a fair and honest review.

All too often, a bad narrator can make it impossible to enjoy what might very well be an excellent book. I can't say if Devil's Blade is excellent or terrible because the narrator, Miles Taylor, made it impossible for me to even finish the book. With an excruciatingly monotone delivery, and broken phrasing, it was impossible for me to even follow the story. I found myself replaying segments over and over in order to understand what just happened, because time and time again the narration completely took me out of the story, until I finally had to give up on the book.

Narrator Doomed the Book

I really enjoyed this book and the characters. It contained gruesome, some supernatural and a crazy killer. It was action packed and totally good listen (it took a bit to get use to the narrator which I felt was a little blah). I would like to see more with NYC detective M. Longwood. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast. Thank You!
