Die Geschichte des Necronomicon ist eine Erzählung von H. P. Lovecraft, die erstmals 1937 veröffentlicht worden ist. Sie fasst die Geschichte des Necronomicon zusammen.

Die Erzählung berichtet knapp vom Leben und Verschwinden von Abdul Alhazred, dem Verfasser des Al Azif, aus dem später die griechische Übersetzung mit dem Namen Necronomicon hervorgeht. Zahlreiche lateinische Übersetzungen entstehen, die schließlich vom Papst verboten werden.
