Stepping out of the TARDIS into Victorian London, Leela and the Doctor are confronted by menacing, diabolical horrors shrouded within the swirling London fog - a man's death cry, an attack by Chinese Tong hatchet men, giant rats roaming the sewers, young women mysteriously disappearing... The hideously deformed Magnus Greel, conducting a desperate search for the lost Time Cabinet, is the instigator of all this evil. Posing as the Chinese god, Weng-Chiang, Greel uses the crafty Chang, and the midget manikin, Mr Sin, to achieve his terrifying objectives. The Doctor must use all his skill, energy and intelligence to escape the talons of Weng-Chiang. Christopher Benjamin, who played Henry Gordon Jago in the original BBC TV serial, reads Terrance Dicks' complete and unabridged novelisation, first published by Target Books in 1977. Another great classic Who adventure. Great narration by Christopher Benjamin, who was excellent in the televised version as Jago. Listened to it in one sitting. This is one of my very favorite Who stories ever. will be listening to it again.

I loved staying up late to watch the Dr. Who series on Chicago's WTTW. The Talons of Weng-Chiang is lovingly set in a Victorian musical theater hall - the Palace. My son and I always enjoyed the exploits of Tom Baker as The Doctor and his companion, Leela. Later, my son told me he had nightmares about the murderous little Mr. Sin - AKA the Peking Homunculus. Christopher Benjamin does a fine job with all the character voices. I intend to listen to it several more times. I relish Jago's love of alliteration. In fact, I loved the fact that the Jago and Litefoot characters - appearing here for the first time - continued on with their own audio series. And, I have downloaded their adventures here at Audible.

The narrator provides just the right tone to this classic story that kept me listening and relistening. A magician in the story bested by the Doctor's magical prowess was one fun part.

Classic Doctor Who. Well done!
