Sold into slavery as a child, Mari was raised on a vessel repair station, growing up to become a highly prized engineer. He wants Mari gone - until he meets her. The tiny human is sweet, shy, timid...beautiful. Now Dovis really wants her gone. He isn’t happy about his attraction to a human. Especially when he can’t be certain Mari’s desire for him is from the heart...or an accident of his own making.

Another Great Storyline

I love Laurann Dohner’s books!
This was a great listen, the narrator’s performance brought the story to life.
I enjoyed Mari, a human slave being freed by her owner.
Captain Cathian hires her to work for him as an engineer repair mechanic.
Dovis is an interesting and intimidating alien. When they meet what a pleasant surprise!
I love this storyline and the characters.
Now I’m on to Book 3!

Story is getting better

The 2nd book in the series is much better. It helps that you already know the characters. This book has a good story and good sex wthout being graphic.

Oh My Gosh!

I loved Mari - ah! Favorite female character yet in this series. Love her background - growing up alone but has the gumption to be the very best engineer. Love her. So when she is granted her freedom and given a job aboard a ship, she has some learning to do, like not needing to impress everyone or worrying that she will be thrown off the ship.

Dovis was an interesting character. He was a werewolf-like alien. He has two forms, a big hairy version and a human-looking version. Although rough and tough on the outside, he holds a heart of gold. His growl is worse than his bite. Ha!

I enjoyed reading/listening to their romance unfold. A little angst, a little unknown, and a whole lot of sexy.

Taming Dovis

I was really excited to see how Dovis would be when finally finding love. His prickly mood in the first book made me the most curious about him. Again I liked both characters in this book but I hoped for maybe a more complete HEA. As the series continues in 2 other books perhaps we will get a warm fuzzies HEA for everyone at the end of book 4.

Great story!

This was a wonderful story about those who are outcast and alone. I felt so in tune with the characters that I wanted this book to be longer even though I almost always prefer books less than 5 hours. Just wanted more of this couple. The narrator was good but I miss Callie who narrated the first book - she was amazing and it's hard when they switch narrators as the characters feel different.
