Will dragons defend a kingdom founded on lies?

Novice dragon rider Cora and her dragon Alaric are determined to rescue their families from the king’s fortress, but after her first attempt at infiltration, Cora is captured! Panic turns to hope, though, when she realizes her captors are antiroyalists. Maybe she won’t have to face Onyx alone…and maybe she and Alaric can have help with their training when a mysterious woman who helped her before is revealed to be the only surviving dragon rider.

But rumors of a new dragon rider are spreading in the Tenegard kingdom, making Cora’s training even more dangerous. And she and Alaric have yet to harness the full power of their mystical bond…a power they desperately need, if they are to have any chance of defeating King Onyx and rescuing their loved ones.

On their own, Cora and Alaric are no match for the powerful sorcerer king. But will other dragons rally to their cause, after a century of lies sent them fleeing from humans? Even as they struggle to form this new alliance, Onyx’s forces are closing in on Cora and Alaric.

And a darkness beyond their imagination looms on the horizon….

This is a clean fantasy series and yeah the MC gets abducted but how else are you going to find good allies? You don't have to read book one first since it can stand alone but it adds depth if you do

Dragon Scales by Ava Richardson is a wonderful dragon fantasy. Amy Hall did a fantastic job with the narration and bringing the story to life. The story is entertaining, interesting, engaging, enjoyable, action packed, funny, and more. Dragon Scales is the second book in Rise of the Dragon Riders series. Are dragon riders able to survive? What is looming on the horizon for the dragon riders? I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Highly recommend.

This year, I've become enamored of the interconnected magical world created by this amazing fantasy writer. I've enjoyed several series by now, and this series has not yet disappointed me! I love how the author creates young heroines who have no clue of their strength and abilities until situations make them come to realize them and build them not only for their own betterment but also for the improvement of their world in the battle against particularly dark foes who have evil intent within their realm. This book appears to start simply, with its heroine wanting to rescue her father and her dragon's mother from imprisonment. But she and her dragon are soon swept up in a much larger predicament that impacts their realm. Much of the book is about her and her dragon learning new skills so they can better not only rescue their parents but take a bold role in taking back their world from an evil ruler and his minions. I loved the side story about the presumptive heir to the throne and her growing relationship with the heroine’s dragon’s mother; I wish they got a little more screen time. The author has built a complex world of memory- and emotion-based magic with dragons. The evil is more complex than it appears at first. I love how the author drew this out until near the end of the book, creating a twist I didn’t see coming yet was understandable once you thought about what happened earlier. I love to be surprised, and this author has done it time and time again. My only regret is that the book ended on a semi-cliffhanger, and I didn't have the next audiobook cued up and ready to go to next. But that's my only complaint about the book … I just wanted the story to continue to discover how good would ultimately triumph over the greatest evil.

Another Excellent Installment in Delightful Series

This is the second book in the series and although it, unfortunately it doesn't wrap up all the open issues left in the first book it does grow the story and adds to the cast of characters in a meaningful way. This book introduces us to Octavia, who is the King's heir.
She's not sold on the initiatives and goals that the King has and that adds to the story's intrigue. I look forward to the next book and following the adventures of the strong female lead characters.
