Would you consider the audio edition of Dubliners to be better than the print version?

Yes. I don't have a lot of spare time so reading a good book can take a long time for me. Being able to listen to books opens up a whole new world for me.

What does N.N. bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tadhg Hynes does a great job. The fact that he is a Dubliner himself adds a great deal to the enjoyment. Joyces' language and use of dialect is essential to his writing so the intonation and understanding of the Dublin accent is a huge part of the book. The reader does this naturally and switches between characters with very authentic voices.

Any additional comments?

While all the short stories were enjoyable, three stood out particularly. They were Counterparts, Grace and The Dead.If you don't have a tear in your eye at the end of The Dead then you must be devoid of a heart. It's beautifully read and the last few paragraphs will haunt your memory for a long time.

Not to be missed!!!!

Growing up with an extended family from Dublin, and relatives and friends from all over Ireland, I could see the faces of people I knew in the varied voices written by Joyce and narrated so very well. Loved it!

worth it for the accent!

Any additional comments?

I found all the stories pretty boring. I was mildy excited when I got to 'The Dead' since I've read good things about it. It was a let down like the rest of the book. Maybe classics are like Oscar winning movies...boring. Maybe it's time for me to get off the 'Classic' kick and read something that is good IMO. I definitely won't be reading Ulysses anytime soon.
