New Orleans--September 1947. World War II has been over for only two years, the Civil War for slightly more than eighty. Segregation and racism are still running rampant in the Southern United States, including Louisiana. “Duke” Jefferson, an injured Black war vet and somewhat successful nightclub owner, receives a call from an old war buddy, who tells him he is in trouble. When Duke seeks him out, he discovers that the man has been dead and buried for more than three weeks.

Deciding to discover the truth, he finds that two other men from his unit met a similar fate and decides to launch a full-scale investigation. He encounters dirty cops, imposters, voodoo rituals, military secrets, and dead bodies at every turn. Is there anyone that he can truly trust? Is anyone really safe? Can he find his friends and save them, if they are even still alive? Is there a bigger plot unfolding? Join us for the mystery of a lifetime and find out!

Duke Jefferson - Private Eye is an exciting tale marked by hard-hitting, non-stop action and suspense. The characters are well developed, and there is plenty of local color in post WWII New Orleans. Richard Hartmetz’s story is significantly enhanced by the exceptional narration by Tom Briggs which puts you right there in the action. All in all, an excellent book well worth a listen.
