The power is out, and the world is in chaos....

When an EMP catastrophe shuts down power worldwide, Melanie Pearson must embark on a grueling trek to reunite with her family. But before she can cross the savage wastelands, she’ll need to help her boss find his own son first. And Melanie quickly realizes she may have made a deal with the devil himself….

Meanwhile, her husband Mark struggles to keep their daughter Shona safe. But after he falls ill from an infected wound, survival becomes a tenuous gamble. Unless they can get their hands on the vital medicine he needs to recuperate, all their lives are at risk.

As Knoxville descends into chaos, Melanie, Mark, and their desperate allies must fend off roving mobs and power-hungry scavengers, as they struggle to to survive in this violent new world.

But when death finally knocks on their door, the price of safety may be too steep for them to pay….

OK, even though the word "indeed " was way overused, I like the story. Kept me listening. Good ending.

Indeed, I enjoyed EMP Disaster !

This was entertaining. The main characters were likable and it kept me hooked. I was annoyed that the male characters were either bad or weak. I don't mind stories with strong female leaders but I didn't like the husband being so weak even after recovering from injury. overall though it was good.

fun disaster story

I liked the characters and the story. It was a little different so it kept me interested. I would definitely recommend this one.

The son

As EMP fiction, this series fits in the norm. The characters are well formed although they aren't particularly intelligent or interesting (except for the character Rita.) They make some of the most ridiculous strategic decisions I can imagine, and they fail to make any long-term plans, and yet by a total quirk of luck they survive the apocalypse against human enemies far more dangerous and better prepared than this little group of survivors. Ms Hamilton's writing is good, although rather hokie at times. With a more realistic plot, this could be a better series.
The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, does a good job keeping the action going. The only problem I have is that practically every single character is portrayed with a very nasally, whiny voice. Either that, or they sound like they're 'not-too-bright' I feel like reaching into the book and slapping the backs of their heads and say, "Quit whining you sniveling idiots!"
The series is "okay." Something to pass the time with.

I normally love her books but this one drove me nuts! Too much whining and complaining.
I mean, yes you have to take a gun when everyone wants to kill you. grrrr!

Too much whining.
