Ted Lasso meets Bridgerton for a nineteenth century spin on The Hangover in USA Today bestselling author Jenny Holiday's laugh-out-loud Earls Trip.

Even an earl needs his ride-or-dies, and Archibald Fielding-Burton, the Earl of Harcourt, counts himself lucky to have two. The annual trip that Archie takes with his BFFs Simon and Effie holds a sacred spot in their calendars. This year, Archie is especially eager to get away, until an urgent letter arrives from an old family friend, begging him to help prevent a ruinous scandal. Suddenly, the trip has become earls-plus-girls, as Archie's childhood pals, Clementine and Olive Morgan, are rescued en route to Gretna Green.

This . . . complicates matters. The fully grown Clementine, while as frank and refreshing as he remembers, is also different to the wild, windswept girl he knew. This Clem is complex and surprising—and adamantly opposed to marriage. Which, for reasons Archie dare not examine too closely, he finds increasingly vexing.

Then, Clem makes him an indecent and quite delightful proposal, asking him to show her the pleasures of the marriage bed before she settles into spinsterhood. And what kind of gentleman would he be to refuse a lady?

First time for this author. FUN and much banter! Of course you can’t go wrong with Harry Frost. The switch up of characters is always evident. This tale is excellent!

I picked this book merely because it was written by Jenny Holiday, and I absolutely loved her book Canadian Boyfriend. I expected a Rom Com, but didn't read much about the book before I started listening and was surprised it took place in 1821 in old England, complete with a proper English narrator. But Jenny Holiday does a great job of peppering in current references and double entendre, which keeps it fun. Sort of reminded me of Princess Bride without the super witty dialog. A fairly predictable story, aren't all Rom Coms(?), but a fun light read with engaging dialog and characters, and some steamy sex scenes. Overall I really liked it and recommend it to someone looking for a fun light hearted listen with no expectation of anything too profound.

Super fun RomCom set in 1800s England

I chose this book after it was recommended by a writer on CBS. I listen to books at least half of the time while driving and found the reader's very difficult to hear. His "up & down" in tone felicitate my constant use of the volume know which became frustrating. The story was entertaining but very predictable.

no Surprises here

If you’re looking for intellectual stimulation, go elsewhere. If you’re looking for well written escapism, this is your book! It’s predictable but enjoyable.

Fun!

Earls Trip is a humorous, romantic, and heart-warming regency-era novel that doesn'ttake itself seriously. Definitely recommend.
